Lead Product Owner – Energy Flexibility & EMS Integrations (m/f/d)
Your Mission
You will become Exolink’s technical and domain lead for EV energy management and flexibility services. Working directly with our engineering team, you will define how Energy Management Systems (EMS), flexibility providers, aggregators, and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) integrate into the Exolink platform. In this role, you will bridge the gap between energy markets, EV charging operations, software architecture, and customer value creation.
Core Responsibilities
1. Define the EMS Integration Framework
• Design and continuously improve the generic integration architecture between Exolink and external ecosystems (EMS, Smart Charging Platforms, Flexibility Aggregators, VPPs, Demand Response Platforms, and Dynamic Tariff Providers). • Create standardized interfaces that allow providers to integrate once and scale seamlessly across multiple Charge Point Management System (CPMS) environments
2. Partner with Engineering as Domain Expert
• Act as the dedicated Product Owner for all flexibility-related capabilities within Exolink. • Partner closely with software architects and developers to define: • OCPP integration patterns and Smart Charging control flows. • Charging Profiles, Dynamic Load Management interfaces, and Plug & Charge workflows. • Local versus cloud-based EMS architectures, site digital twins, and real-time control mechanisms.
3. Own Technical & Commercial Evaluations
• Evaluate and benchmark potential EMS partners across three core dimensions: • Technical: Smart Charging, V2G readiness, API maturity, and Cybersecurity. • Commercial: Business models, scalability, and ROI potential. • Operational: Deployment complexity, support quality, and market maturity.
4. Build the EMS Knowledge Graph
• Create and maintain Exolink’s internal intelligence layer covering EMS providers, aggregators, VPPs, energy traders, flexibility markets, and regulatory frameworks. • Enable Exolink to intelligently recommend the most suitable solution for any given charging site and use case.
Your Profile: Technical Knowledge & Experience
We don’t expect you to be an absolute expert in everything listed below, but you should have a strong track record and deep familiarity with a significant portion of these domains:
• EV Charging Protocols: OCPP (1.6, 2.0.1, 2.1), OCPI, ISO 15118, and Plug & Charge workflows. • Charging Use Cases: Public, Fleet, and Depot Charging infrastructure. • Energy Management Systems: HEMS, BEMS, CEMS, Site Energy Management, Behind-the-Meter/Front-of-the-Meter Optimization, Battery Storage Systems, and PV Integration. • Flexibility Markets & Tariffs: Demand Response, Ancillary Services (FCR, aFRR, mFRR), Local Flexibility Markets, VPPs, and Dynamic Tariffs. • Software Architecture: Modern web APIs, Cloud & Edge Architectures, Event-driven Systems, IoT Platforms, Digital Twins, and Real-time Control Systems.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12 months, you will have successfully driven the following outcomes:
• The industry's leading EMS providers are natively integrated into Exolink. • Exolink offers a fully standardized, repeatable EMS integration framework. • Charge Point Operators (CPOs) can effortlessly compare EMS providers through your consistent evaluation model. • Our engineering teams can onboard new EMS providers significantly faster due to your framework. • Exolink is recognized across the industry as the neutral interoperability layer for EV energy flexibility.
What We Offer
• A small, highly experienced team of just 10–12 people with maximum ownership, visibility and impact.
